IS PANCHA KARMA FOR YOU?
If you’re depleted and exhausted, burnt-out, suffering from chronic symptoms or conditions that western medicine can’t cure, are overstimulated by technology, planning to have a child, are overweight, going through a major life transition, want to slow the aging process or are concerned about your lack of vitality, than Pancha Karma is for you.
Pancha Karma is a complete mind-body-spirit healing experience. The depth of rejuvenation, relaxation and transformation that it offers will give you a completely new perspective on how good you can feel.
Pancha Karma is thousands of years old. It originated in India through the medical Science of Ayurveda. This ancient technique of detoxifying and rejuvenating the body and mind is unique to Ayurveda and is the only method of it’s kind...
PANCHA KARMA AND AYURVEDA TODAY
The Western world is in the process of awakening to the gifts that Ayurveda and Pancha Karma offer. Not many people know that Ayurveda is a sister science to Yoga; they come from the same time, place and people out of India almost 5,000 years ago. The popularity of yoga has paved the way for Ayurveda’s introduction to the west.
Ayurvedic Principles are being brought forward to deepen our understanding of the ways in which we can heal, maintain wellbeing and realize our true potential. From Maharishi Mahesh Yogi to Deepak Chopra to Dr. Oz – Ayurveda has been slowly growing from a low hum to a steady roar in the past 30 years in the US. Pancha Karma is Ayurveda’s most concentrated course of treatment.

Client Testmonial
“I’ve never been rejuvenated so quickly and effectively than by doing a Pancha Karma with Valerie and Bonita (VitalLiving). I work with technology on a daily basis and reached a place where I felt completely burnt out, with a racing and unfocused mind and low energy. I went from being totally depleted and worn out to feeling full of energy and life in three weeks time. ”

What is Pancha Karma?
Pancha Karma is the most significant experience you can give yourself to achieve and maintain well-being. If you’re looking for a course of treatment that will totally refresh, rejuvenate and recharge you – you’ve found it here.
Pancha Karma detoxifies the body, strengthens the immune system, slows aging, resets the body’s digestive function and capacity and restores balance and wellbeing. It addresses and corrects mental and emotional disorders, digestive issues, weight management issues, chronic disease, speeds recovery, eases life transitions, slows aging and more. Ayurveda teaches that Pancha Karma should be received annually and at certain life junctures for wellbeing.
Ayurvedically speaking, good health depends on a number of factors. Generally, the most important are:
1. Lifestyle: Lifestyle includes the day-to-day practices that keep the body, mind and spirit sustained and thriving. The little things you do everyday are huge in the big picture. Ayurveda refines your understanding of the activities and substances that create health for you. Practices include appropriate food, cultivation of harmonious relationships, appropriate exercise, self reflection, identifying a sense of purpose, making a contribution to the world, observing devotional practices, daily self-care and more…
2. Internal and External Cleansing: In the same way that your home or vehicle need a good cleaning inside and out at regular intervals, the body needs to be scrubbed from time to time. According to Ayurvedic Principles, cleansing should be done through small practices daily (like bathing and brushing your teeth), more significantly at the turn of each season (like a dietary cleanse) and through Pancha Karma annually. Frequent and appropriate cleansing maintains health and well-being.
3. Rejuvenation: Without regular rejuvenative practices and care, you become weak, exhausted, depleted and depressed. Organs and body systems begin to decline. Strengthening the body with appropriate substances and practices informed by Ayurveda is a simple and blissful process. Oils, herbs, therapies and nourishing foods and activities are administered to create balance and strength.

Client Testimonial
“I’ve received Pancha Karma many times, including at The Raj. For the past three years, Tona and Valerie have traveled and administered Pancha Karma to me.
I so appreciate the care, expertise, warmth and professionalism that they pour into their work. They prepare all of the meals – and the food is so delicious that my family members often join us. They create a nice schedule to organize a daily routine and therapy times – making sure that I do meditation, yoga, take gentle walks and reflect on what is coming up for me during the Pancha Karma process. They also make themselves available to teach me more about how to align my life with Ayurvedic Principles.
Tona and Valerie are such a joy to be with. The quality of the Pancha Karma couldn’t be better. They both have such kind and loving hands and skill with the therapies. Receiving Pancha Karma at home, without having to deal with the stress of travel, makes the experience much richer and more powerful than I’ve ever experienced elsewhere. I can truly relax into the process.
I don’t know how they do it, but Tona and Valerie move heaven and earth to create a full Ayurvedic Treatment center for me every year. I love how I feel with each annual Pancha Karma. My friends wonder what my secret is – and I tell them – Ayurveda and two very special women!” -Laura C., Ohio

The Pancha Karma Process
The Pancha Karma process combines Lifestyle, Cleansing and Rejuvenation in a focused and condensed timeframe that brings you back to yourself in a profoundly satisfying way. Emotional, mental and bodily blockages are melted and released. You experience a total reset and can move forward in an integrated and powerful way.
Pancha Karma takes place over a period of 28 days. Some of the Pancha Karma process can take place in the context of your day-to-day life. Some of the process must be experienced in a dedicated space in which you can withdraw from work and external distractions. There are three phases to Pancha Karma:
1. Cleansing
(Days 1-7. This may be done at home)
During this 7-day dietary cleansing phase, a light diet of beans, rice, spices, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds is taken in combination with special herbs that loosen toxins in the GI Tract and prepare the body for the deeper detoxification to come. At the end of this diet, purgation of the bowls is induced.
2. Therapeutic Deep Tissue Cleansing
(3 to 9 days. This phase must be administered by Ayurvedic Professionals at a clinic or predetermined location of choice).
During phase 2, you rest down deeply while receiving approximately 3 hours of medicinal body therapies daily. You are encouraged to withdraw from the world, media, sexual activity and relationship drama and to place focus on introspection and relaxation. Therapeutic movement, plant medicines, medicinal food and activities are also taken during this time. This phase continues the detoxification process by pushing and pulling impurities out of the body. All actions during this time are focused upon eliminating excess toxins and imbalanced energies from the deep tissues and pathways of the body and mind to support health, increase digestive power, build the vitality of the tissues, nourish the nervous system, balance the mind and restore the senses to clarity. The mind and body reintegrate during this time. Self-awareness deepens and allows you to release emotions and beliefs that block healthy flow.
3. Rejuvenation
(7-14 days. This may be done at home)
Phase 3 is a 7-14 day period of rest, rebuilding, relaxation, re-integration, consumption of medicinal foods and plant medicines. The body and mind are clean and clear. This is the time to rebuild with excellent nourishment for sustained well-being and longevity. Your customized rejuvenation program will include a nutrition plan, herbal supplements, therapeutic self-care practices and tailored lifestyle recommendations.
Once you’ve completed the three phases of Pancha Karma, you’ll experience the incredible benefits of the process. A clear mind, regulated digestion, a rejuvenated body, weight loss, a sense of peace and strength and a lightness of being will be yours to to take forward with you.

Now that we are all potentially 15 years older than we should be, what can we do reboot our systems? Continue Reading…

[/restab][restab title=”Pancha Karma in Your Home”]Why an In-Residence Pancha Karma?
The conditions under which Pancha Karma is administered are as important as the actual process. Traveling long distances, braving the strangeness of a new place or different culture, adjusting to new time zones or being away from home and loved ones can infuse what should be a time of deep relaxation and renewal with stress, anxiety and a sense of estrangement and alienation.
Often, we work with clientele who want the benefits of Pancha Karma but can’t fully remove themselves from life and work. Undergoing Pancha Karma in-residence allows them to achieve a level of balance with self-care that isn’t disruptive to fragile systems.
The changes that you experience through a Pancha Karma in a far-off place can result in deep disconnects from family, relationships and work. Undergoing Pancha Karma and Ayurvedic Lifestyle Education in your home, supported by VitalLiving staff, and in the context of your life is empowering and enriching. When experienced in this way, all of your energy is available to you in a familiar setting. Healing takes place within the framework of your life.
You will be deeply rejuvenated by nourishing foods, Ayurvedic therapies, education and good company. This will give you the strength to maintain your new sense of well-being and help you continue with the new practices that you have learned. The VitalLiving team is available through phone, Skype or personal consultation after your Pancha Karma to support you.

What are Ayurvedic Therapies?
Good question! Ayurvedic Therapies are thousands of years old. Their effect is as powerful as it is mysterious. Ayurvedic Therapies are strong medicine! They deeply enhance your well-being. The therapies allow your body and mind to relax and reintegrate and build strength. You become aware of yourself in new ways – all under the nurturing hands of VitalLiving professionals. Warms oils and herbs are applied to the body to mobilize and remove imbalances, pacify and rebuild the nervous system, remove toxic accumulations from the tissue, re-establish circulation and flow through blocked channels and revitalize organ function, among other things. The traditional therapies that VitalLiving will administer to you include, but are not limited to:
- Abyhanga Massage: A choreographed massage administered by two therapists working in synchronicity. Organic oils infused with herbs that will benefit your specific constitution are applied in large quantity to deeply penetrate and nourish the skin. The mind and body are lulled into a deep state of relaxation, toxins are dislodged from the tissue and mobilized for elimination. Circulation of the arterial and lymphatic systems is stimulated.
- Svedana: A medicinal steam bath. The head is kept cool while the body is heated to stimulate a sweat that removes the toxins that have been loosened and released into the system for elimination by other therapies, such as Abyhanga. As the pores open, the herbalized oils move inward, delivering medicines and lubrication deeply into the tissues. Toxins move out. The channels of the body are cleared, the muscles relax and the senses are nurtured.
- Dough Dam Basti: A treatment applied externally to a specific part of the body. A vessel is made out of flour and water, placed over a targeted area, filled with warm medicated oil and allowed stand for up to 45 minutes. Organs and tissue are bathed and nourished. Circulation to the compromised area is increased and herbal medicines are diffused through the skin membrane resulting in both cleansing and rejuvenation. Each medicated oil formula is unique for each person and condition.
- Basti: Oil and water colonic treatments
- Shirodhara: A simple and profound treatment that works specifically on regulating the activity of the mind. Oil infused with herbs chosen to address your unique condition is gently and methodically directed over the forehead. As you lie comfortably on your back, warm oil is streamed to a point between the eyebrows and flows over the forehead and scalp continuously for approximately 45 minutes. A synchronization of the brain waves occurs, opening you to a state of deep relaxation in which there is relief from thought and a deep well of peace and restfulness.
- Nasya: This treatment clears the sinuses and reverses the deep dryness that is the root of many respiratory, central nervous system and allergic conditions by cleansing, opening and suffusing the sinus tissues with medicinal oils. Nasya begins with a facial massage. Heat is then applied to the face and head to encourage dilation and opening of the sinuses. Medicated oil is administered into the nasal passages to cleanse and purify the sinuses. Nasya has an immediately beneficial affect on allergies, snoring, sinusitis, tinnitus, sleep apnea and headaches. It is a valuable aid for increasing mental focus.
You should expect to receive 2 ½ – 3 hours of Ayurvedic Therapies per day during your Pancha Karma. Every day will begin with an Abhyanga massage and end with either an oil or water colonic treatment. The rest of your therapies will change as VitalLiving therapists deem appropriate for your individual constitution and condition.
What kind of food will be prepared?
Delicious, nourishing, organic vegetarian fare will be lovingly and Ayurvedically prepared for you daily. Legumes, grains, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds, rich oils and spices, non-dairy milks and herbal teas will be featured and prepared differently for each meal. All meals will be taken at the same time every day. Vitalliving will visit the local organic markets in your area upon arrival to gather the freshest, most regional and seasonal foods to use for the duration of your Pancha Karma. You may wish to engage VitalLiving for instruction throughout the course of their stay to teach you how to eat and cook Ayurvedically!
Rates
Your In-Residence Pancha Karma will be subject to variability in rates and will be priced upon request. Travel expenses for your therapists, the length of your Pancha Karma and the number of participants will affect the cost of service.
