Why you should try Self-Massage – Just Once!

Ayurveda is an ancient Wholistic Life Science from India. It’s all-encompassing, and can nimbly shift between guidelines for the mundane aspects of healthy daily living to extolling the deeper metaphysical mysteries of Why We’re All Here and what on earth to do with ourselves throughout this journey called Life. Fascinating stuff.

As an Ayurvedic Spa, we love offering tips to help broaden horizons and deepen understanding of focused self-care that is guaranteed to make you happier and healthier! Be sure to watch the instructional video we’ve provided below!

In the interest of staying focused, we’ll dial down to an essential Ayurvedic tool; OIL.  Practically speaking, whenever you’re implementing Ayurveda in the pursuit of personal excellence, you can bet OIL is on the list of Things To Do and Things To Use.

Why? One word: Sneha.

In Ayurveda’s Sanskrit language of origin, the word Sneha means both ‘oil’ and ‘love.’

“Oil is to the body as love is the soul.” So the ancient Ayurvedic Maxim goes. Translation; the application and/or experience of Love and Oil give a similar feeling; that of stability, warmth, fulfillment, comfort, expansion, safety, nourishment… the list goes on.

We’re happy to help you understand better WHY WE USE SO MUCH OIL IN OUR TREATMENTS! Love is the answer. 🙂

As one of the very oldest healing systems on the planet, we can refer to texts that are thousands of years old for some beautifully phrased bullet items that detail how the frequent application oil to your skin will benefit you.  Modern Medical Science, in it’s infancy, has been confirming these ancient claims in clinical trials.

Here are just a few:

  • Gives softness, strength and color to the body
  • Decreases the effects of aging
  • Bestows good vision
  • Nourishes the body
  • Increases longevity
  • Benefits sleep patterns
  • Benefits skin
  • Strengthens the body’s tolerance
  • Imparts a firmness to the limbs
  • Imparts tone and vigor to the tissues of the body
  • Stimulates the internal organs of the body, increasing circulation
  • Pacifies Dryness and Inflammation

Whether producing endorphin release, moving lymph and stimulating detoxification, or increasing the mind/body connection and self-awareness  – any way you cut it, performing frequent Oil Self-Massage is a powerful practice for health and happiness.

Ayurveda teaches that there are multiple layers of tissue in the body (plasma, blood, fat, muscle, bone, nervous system and reproductive tissue).  In order for the nourishing oil applied to the body during self-massage to penetrate to the deepest layers (bringing maximum joy and medicinal value to the practice), the entire body needs a minimum of 15-minutes of massage. More time = happier you.

Herbal oils specific to your constitution or current condition are especially good choices for full body massage. We challenge you in the kindest way to try this JUST ONCE.  You won’t be sorry.
